KBC reaches South India with Star channels
Almost 12 years after it was first aired on Star Plus, Kaun banega Crorepati (KBC), the game show, will now travel down south, on Star India channels.

Soon, Vijay TV (Tamil), Suvarna (Kannada) and Asianet (Malayalam) are going to have their own versions of KBC.

On Vijay TV, the show is christened as ‘Neengalam Vellalam Oru Kodi’ and will launch by mid-February. The channel has also roped in Tamil actor Suriya to host the show and make a debut on television.

"This is truly the first international format that would hit the Tamil television screens and we are very excited about it. We are proud that we have managed to rope in Suriya to host the show. This programme would be the game changer not only for Vijay TV but also Tamil Television,” says Vijay TV GM K Sriram. “To strengthen the Channel, we plan to launch two high decibel fiction shows around this programme. We have planned an extensive marketing plan which this market would have never seen before."

Meanwhile, Suvarna will launch the Kannada version – ‘Kannadada Kotyadhipati’. Like the Temil counterpart, Suvarna has also roped in Puneet Rajkumar, who will also be making his debut on television.

Suvarna Business Head Anup Chandrasekharan says,”Suvarna has been bringing some of the most popular reality shows and wholesome family entertainment to Kannada homes. The Star Network originally brought in KBC to India and made it the most popular reality show in the country. We at Suvarna have the best ingredients to make Kannadada Kotiyadipati a successful show - it is a great concept, a power star as anchor, and one of the best production houses to execute it.”

Asinet is yet to announce the plan of launch, however, it is understood that the Malayalam channel will also unveils the show soon.

The show will take the 8-9.30 pm weekday band on all three channels and Siddhartha Basu’s Big Synergy is producing the three versions.

Earlier this year, Mahuaa Network had aired the Bhojpuri and Bengali versions of the show on Mahua TV and Mahua Bangla respectively.

Meanwhile, Sony Entertainment Television (Set) has just finished the fifth season of the show (third on second on Set) and has already signed Amitabh Bachchan for one more season.

This is not the first time this program has been tried in Tamil. Earlier Actor Sarath Kumar was a host, in "Koteeswaran", but the show was a flop.

Surya is a better choice than Vijay.
