NEW DELHI: A 24-hour Rajya Sabha television channel is set to be launched during the monsoon session of Parliament beginning next month.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan said that preparations were on in full swing for the launch of the channel around August 15, he told Doordarshan.

"The studios, technical staff recruitment and programming models are progressing on schedule," Khan said.

Currently, the Rajya Sabha television broadcasts the proceedings of the upper house when Parliament is in session.

Khan said when Parliament is not in session, the channel would telecast programmes related to democratic values and institutions targeted at the younger generation.

The Lok Sabha Television was launched in 2006 as a 24-hour channel broadcasting live proceedings of the Lower House and various cultural and educational programmes and panel discussions, when Parliament is not in session.
