The number of pay news channels not complying with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) 12-minute ad cap rule fell to 25 for the period 28 March–26 June.
In the period from 28 December to 27 March, 30 pay news channels had failed to comply with the 12-minute ad cap rule.
The information is based on the data submitted by the broadcasters for peak hours (7 pm–10 pm).
As per information available with TRAI, the other pay news channels were carrying less than 12 minutes of average duration of hourly advertisements (commercial & self-promotional) during peak hours.
Out of the 25, there were eight national news channels in English and Hindi. The rest were regional news channels.
Among the national news channels, Zee News (Hindi) had aired the maximum ads at 19.34 minutes per clock hour, while Headlines Today (English news channel now named India Today TV) was the lowest at 13.49 minutes per hour.
In the English genre, only two news channels went beyond the 12-minute ad limit. Apart from Headlines Today, CNN-IBN crossed the 12-minute ad cap.
Among the regional new channels, the highest ad duration was for ETV Rajasthan at 21.95 minutes per clock hour and the lowest was for Zee Telugu at 12.01 minutes. The regional-language channels were primarily from three networks—ETV News Network, Zee Media Corporation and ABP News Network.
