Even as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI’s) 12-minute ad cap remains under judicial consideration in the Delhi High Court, the sector regulator has reported that 27 news channels showed advertising in excess of 12 minutes per clock hour for the period between 29 June 2015 and 27 September 2015.

As per data released by TRAI, 10 national news channels and 17 regional news channels overstepped the 12-minute (commercial & self-promotional) cap during the peak hours from 7 to 10 pm.

Interestingly, regional news channels are the biggest consumers of commercial airtime and they took the top four spots on a list of 27 channels.

Channels like Times Now, NDTV 24X7, ABP News and ET Now did not feature in the list.

As per information provided by TRAI, news channels that do not appear in the list carried fewer than 12 minutes of advertising (commercial and self-promotional) per hour from 7 to 10 pm.
