Sun Direct has seeded 9.2 million STBs but has managed to retain only 5.6 million active DTH subscribers, close to the industry average churn rate of 44%.
Sun Direct claims a churn rate of only 1% for the first 90-day period. However, it should be noted that most DTH platforms provided a 90 day subscription bundled with their STB and sign-up!
Sun Direct's has declared an acquisition cost per subscriber of around Rs. 2,400, out of which Rs. 1,000 is for the STB.
This implies that Sun Direct has lost Rs. 300 Crores in Switched off, or 'Dark' STBs.
