The launch will be announced at MIPCOM on October 5. The new channel will reach around 60 million homes in Europe and India.

Mariam Zamaray, CEO of TERN, said “With viewers increasingly watching content on multiple devices, broadcasters and advertisers must continually find new ways to connect with viewers.  In response, INSIGHT goes beyond simple viewer interaction to incentivise and reward audience engagement.   By putting viewers at the centre of the action, we believe broadcasters and advertisers now have more opportunities to attract and retain audiences.”

Working towards providing a clutter breaking viewer experience, INSIGHT’s shows are shot, edited and broadcast in UHD.  Original factual entertainment shows Earth Extreme Journeys (Off the Fence), Spartan X (Strix) and RUN (Zodiak Media) are shot at a standard-setting 50 frames per second, in four times the resolution of any other factual entertainment channel.

Zamaray continued: “INSIGHT is at the vanguard of the UHD movement. We are investing in creative, cost-effective and innovative ways to produce the best UHD content. We’re excited about the possibilities that INSIGHT brings.  Not only are we giving advertisers more opportunities to engage with audiences, we’re also empowering viewers to shape the programs they watch.”

ITV Network will be in charge of distribution in India. Currently, UHD is a fairly new service available on direct-to-home platforms like Tata Sky and Videcon d2h
. Due to the lack of UHD content in the country, both these operators currently provide programmes on their respective UHD channels. In other words, the only UHD channels available in India are those on the DTH operators' programming, and not by any broadcaster. So the DTH providers provide a platform that can air the various UHD programmes available in the country rather than broadcasters.

Factual entertainment is a space that seen a lot of traction for HD content and consumption. The documentaries make use of the superior resolution to provide a detailed viewing experience and hence, the genre has seen good response to the HD platform. Production houses and broadcasters like BBC productions and Discovery already have content that is shot is UHD globally.
