It is nearly 25 years since MGR left us but he still continues to be in the hearts of many and will continue to do so through his evergreen films. The legend who began his acting career through stage shows and dramas raised to superstardom and went on to become on of the most loved and celebrated chief ministers of Tamil Nadu.

A temple for MGR. was consecrated on August 15 at the Tiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu with a priest conducting the consecration ceremonies and fans of MGR distributing milk and "vibhuthi" to the many fans who came to attend the ceremony.

The temple has two idols of the actor, one being a two foot idol and the other a life size, six foot idol. The temple has been built by an ardent fan of MGR, namely Kalaivannan, at a total cost of nearly twenty two lakhs. It is believed that he pledged his wife's jewellery and sold off his property to build this particular temple which is one of its kind.

One if MGR's adopted children is believed to have donated a shirt used by the legend to the temple which was on display during the ceremony!
