Aamir Khan has beat his own record even as ‘Dangal’ has gone past ‘PK’ to become India’s highest Bollywood grosser.

‘Dangal’, the story of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita, has netted Rs 345.31 crore at the box office as of 8 January. The Nitesh Tiwari directed movie mopped up Rs 31.79 crore in the third weekend.

Khan’s comedy drama ‘PK’ had collected Rs 340.8 crore, a record Bollywood grosser until now.

‘Dangal’ was released on 23 December by Disney India. The sports biopic mopped up Rs 107.01 crore in the debut weekend and Rs 197.55 crore during the opening week of release. The second week saw a collection of another Rs 115.96 crore.

Khan, who plays the lead role in ‘Dangal’, had earlier put up record-breaking performances. His ‘Ghajini’ was the first Bollywood film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark, ‘3 id*ots’ was the first to net Rs 200 crore, and ‘PK’ earned more than Rs 300 crore.

‘Sultan’ had a better opening weekend but ‘Dangal’ eventually breached past the Salman Khan movie’s box office collection of Rs 300.45 crore. Salman’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ ranks third in the top Bollywood box office table with a collection of Rs 320.34 crore. Aamir’s ‘Dhoom 3’ is in the fifth place with a collection of Rs 284.27 crore.
