With auctions for DD Free Dish slots for news channels kicking off earlier this month, dozens of networks are in a tight contest through auctions to reach 38 million regional viewers with Doordarshan’s free direct-to-home service. But the competition has doled out confrontation, when one channel has been perceived to have a dubious edge over others.

May be this is unfair but neither ABP nor TV9 own any regional news channel. Whereas News 18's regional presence in DDFreeDish is only available on N18 UP/UK why don't they participate in this.

That is the point here why zee is getting unfair advantage without participation in auction.
ABP has ABP Majha in Maharashtra, ABP Asmita in Gujarat, ABP Sanjha in Punjab and ABP Ganga in Uttarakhand and UP. TV9 has TV9 Marathi, TV9 Gujarati,
News18, the biggest group with 14 news channels in 15 languages, has a presence in each of these states. So regional channels are disadvantaged even though none participated.

TV9 has also TV9 Kannada,Tv9 Bangla, besides TV9 Bharatvarsh in Hindi. They have also plans to launch TV9 Tamil and News9 Plus, an OTT based English news channel.

ABP has little presence in South except two digital channels, ABP Desam in Telugu and ABP Nadu in Tamil.

All those channels you mentioned are not related to this issue. They are not competitive of 8 zee regional channels available on free dish without auction. Zee Bihar-Jharkhand, Zee MP-Chhattisgarh, Zee Punjab-Haryana-Himachal, Zee Rajasthan, Zee Salaam, Zee UP-UK, Zee 24 Taas, Zee Odisha and Zee 24 Kalak. Competitors of these channels have issue. Tamil telugu bangla kannada channels you mentioned have no issue.

All Regional Channels should offer their channels Free in Dish TV also they should pay some extra amount with this condition that their channels will also be available for Dd Free dish via dish tv.

TV9 has regional presence. It started in Telugu and have news channels in different languages.
Do you know there was time TV9 actually has TV9 Rajasthan. But, later shut down without any reason. That was good time when N18 Rajasthan was ETV Rajasthan, it was among good news provider.

How many from N18 TV9 ABP regional taking participation in auction none. First they should participate and then ask that we are paying ZEE is not.

Bro. Why should they pay for something which dishtv is doing for free? Level playing field is demanded by them. N18 up/uk was available on free dish 2 yrs back i guess. Same issue was that time too. why cant dishtv make them free like zee?

Interesting Article !
Though Zee exploited a technical loophole, the consumers are benefiting, thats the most important thing. They re getting to see 8 more channels free of cost.
They should uplink unencrypted signals of few more channels as well.
