MUMBAI: Al Jazeera English will showcase a special episode on acid attack survivors as part of its ‘ViewFinder Asia’ series on 16 October at 10 pm.

Titled ‘Black Roses and Red Dresses’, the episode will shed light on the life of acid attack survivors.

It will depict three acid attack survivors confronting their fears and the violence committed against them by writing letters to
their attackers. Laxmi, herself an acid attack survivor and co-founder of ‘Stop Acid Attacks’,
initiated the Black Rose Campaign to encourage survivors to write letters to their attackers as a process of healing.

One week before the two-year anniversary of the acid attack on 19-year-old Ritu, she struggles to write her letter even as she is
plagued by agonising memories, painful scars, a fear of the colour red and a persistent desire
for wanting revenge.

Laxmi founded ‘Stop Acid Attacks’ with Alok Dixit in New Delhi, and it is the only support and rehabilitation centre for acid attack
victims in the country.

Al Jazeera English will follow the three acid attack survivors Ritu, Roopa and Laxmi, as they
support each other creatively with black roses and red dresses.
