Arunachal Pradesh is all set to launch a rural tourism project at Ziro in Lower Subansiri district by involving local people with the tourism department, according to a PTI report. Entitled as ‘Home Stay,’ the project involves constructing accommodation for tourists in villages with locally available materials, and providing all facilities for the tourists’ comfortable stay.

“In line with the Sikkim model, the project will be started soon in the Siibey, Biri and Hong villages of Ziro Valley,” Tater Mize, District Tourism Officer, said recently. A community-based organisation, the Rural Tourism Management Committee (RTMC) was constituted recently to manage the tourism activities under the project, and look after the security of tourists with the cooperation of the district administration and tourism department.

Training on capacity building for self-help groups, panchayat leaders and unemployed youths was also organised in the district from June 2 to 16. A total of 25 participants were taken to Sikkim on an exposure tour to update themselves with the Sikkimese expertise on tourism development activities and replicate the same on their return to their respective villages, Mize said.
