Star/Disney can regain niche viewership be it in English GEC/Movies or Lifestyle genre but lot of fine tuning required interms of packaging, pricing and content. Star Movies has let go off rights of so many films since ratings dwindled. I don't think they will do so, their sole aim of having high profit margins will become roadblock. Just hope Disney starts to take more control of business decisions then only brighter times can set in. Sony is again quite good as far as content goes in English Movie space but falls behind in promotions/packaging, AXN is another failing end and as u said needs immediate revival on all fronts. Zee is not having good english shows though has build up movie catalogue, then again their transmission quality is inferior and packaging quite average ... pricing wise they r little costly if we see what's on offer.
Viacom18 has Comedy Central doing exceedingly well but Colors Infinity is quite far behind bcoz much of its shows r available to people thru OTT and audience prefers to watch dramas , sci fi or fantasy shows without cuts or censor spoiling fun. Comedy is safe bet, wonder why Star, Sony or Zee r not understanding this till now.
In music genre, my fav r B4U, 9X Jalwa, ILove and occasionally MTV Beats or 9XM, i like seeing more old songs from 90s or 2000s. Mastiii has quite limited library of songs and there is too much repetition while Sony Mix used to b good until they increased time bands dedicated for new songs and above all adopted horrible strategy of double zooming SD picture aspect ratio of new songs.. This has led to poor picture quality at those timings. Zoom is worst of the lot.
By the way did u all notice Star Sports hardly got ratings for India-Bangladesh series but look how Star Sports First performed so well by showcasing live telecast of domestic cricket league "Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy". Star Sports should start airing select IPL as well as all International Cricket matches featuring India and become exclusive Free Dish Channel which will guarantee success else it will continue to be non starter
