Berggruen Hotels Pvt Ltd, which currently operates ten properties in India with around 886 rooms, plans to have 40 properties under its portfolio by FY 2015 -16. These would be a mix of owned and managed hotels, resorts and serviced-apartments. The projects in the pipeline are in Pune, Kochi, Visakhapatnam and Gurgaon. Of these, Pune, Kochi and Visakhapatnam will be owned and managed by Berggruen Hotels Pvt Ltd. The investment for these upcoming projects is approximately Rs 108 crore. The two properties in Gurgaon, which is currently under construction, will be operational in the next two years.

Sanjay Sethi, Managing Director and CEO, Bergguen Hotels said, “We would like to have a combination of owned and managed properties. However, the owned properties would have a room inventory between 100 and 200 whereas managed properties would have room inventory between 80 and 100. The cost per key for owned properties would be Rs 30 lakh. Our resorts come under the upscale category whereas the business hotels are mid-segment.”

The upcoming property in Pune with 101 rooms will be operational by October 2011. Kochi with 151 rooms will open by March 2012 and the 110-room hotel in Visakhapatnam will open by October 2012. The serviced-apartments in Gurgaon will have 100 units whereas the hotels will have 125 rooms. Sethi further added, “The second phase of the Keys Hotel Nestor, Mumbai will witness an addition of 85 rooms. Simultaneously, the second phase of The Evershine, A Keys Resort in Mahabaleshwar will witness an addition of 27 rooms. The additional room inventory at both these properties will be operational by October 2011.”

Berggruen Hotels has taken over the management of 50-room Cama Hotels in Ahmedabad. The hotel will undergo product and service improvements over the next few months. Last month, Berggruen opened its largest property in Whitefield, Bengaluru with 147-room Keys Hotel and a 75 unit Keys Serviced Apartment. The serviced-apartment has a mix of studio and one bedroom units for extended stay guests.

Currently, Berggruen Hotels operates Keys Hotel Trivandrum; The Dukes Retreat - A Keys Resort, Lonavala; Keys Hotel Ludhiana; Keys Hotel Nestor, Mumbai; The Evershine, A Keys Resort – Mahabaleshwar; Keys Hotel Kattima, Chennai; Keys Cama, Ahmedabad; Keys Hosur Road, Bangalore and Keys Hotels and Serviced Apartments in Whitefield, Bengaluru.
