No part of the James Bond franchise, be it books or the movies would be complete without the quintessential Bond girl. Considered the ubiquitous symbol of glamour and sophistication, Bond girls have always contributed to more than just the eyecandy factor in any Bond film.

She could be the damsel in distress, an agent essential to the success of a mission or a vamp. With the news that the 23rd installment has resumed shooting and moving into pre-production with director Sam Mendes at the helm and Daniel Craig reprising his role as the suave 007, rumour mills are working overtime, speculating who would take their place in the Bond universe. Also, with English actress Naomie Harris being offered a role as well as talks going on with Israeli model Esti Ginzburg, the speculation has just hit the ceiling!

Here's our pick of women who could qualify to play the role CLOSE ENOUGH

1. Amy Adams: Once you see the punches she throws in The Fighter, you'd know why!
2. Rhona Mitra: Two movies speak for her Doomsday and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.
3. Keira Knightley:
What's Bond without the ever-chattering English girl somewhere in the scene? And she can fight too!
4. Makin Akerman: If she could play Silk Spectre II in Watchmen, she could be a Bond girl too.
5. Eva Longoria: Classy and beautiful; she fits the bill.

ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY
This is the Transformers 3 hottie who was in the news for replacing Megan Fox. Having made her Hollywood debut, this former lingerie model says she'd love to play the Bond girl. She recently won the Sexiest Woman of the World title and declared she'd love to go ugly for a film. But with her looks and long legs, this diva is a sure shot for the Bond girl!

EMILY BLUNT
She'd be the ideal actress to be a Bond vamp. She has the cold ability to be detached and evil, and the accent to give the extra touch. She was impressive as Emily Charlton, Meryl Streep's haughty senior assistant in The Devil Wears Prada. Her performance as a Bond girl could be reminiscent to that of Miranda Frost (Rosamund Pike) in Die Another Day.
The perfect Bond bad girl is devious and sexy but not overt; a character that Emily could take a shot at maybe?

BLAKE LIVELY
Blake has a certain 'don't mess with me' attitude that would remind you of Honey Ryder, the original Bond girl, made immortal by Ursula Andress in Dr. No.

MEGAN FOX
Her recent career graph has shown her playing everything from a bold biker girl in Transformers to a lusty demon in Jennifer's Body, and there's no doubt that this 25-year-old siren can pull off a convincing Bond girl; perhaps a vamp like Xenia Onatopp from GoldenEye (Famke Janssen).

ZOE SALDANA
James Bond has fallen in love only twice; with Vesper Lynd and Trace di Vicenzo (Diana Rigg) in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. But if Bond were ever to fall in love again, much to the horror of Ian Fleming, it might as well be with any character that Zoe's playing. This versatile actress could play any of the three standard types of Bond girl. She has the mischief in her eyes to play the vamp, the fight in her to play the trusty ally and the finesse to be the leading Bond girl.

FREIDA PINTO
This lady was for long rumoured to be the hot favourite to play the next Bond Girl. Even though she had denied her involvement in the film, Freida is still a popular choice since Hollywood is still smitten by her performance in
Slumdog Millionaire. She has that ability to charm the audience and has a certain something that fits perfectly with the typical Bond damsel in distress.

OLIVIA WILDE
After watching her fight to a Daft Punk soundtrack in Tron: Legacy, need you really ask why she ought to be the next Bond girl? Olivia has the right amount of looks and attitude to play a Bond girl, good, bad or even downright rotten. As long as she gets to kick the living daylights out of someone on screen!

AMANDA SEYFRIED
She would have usually been the last to feature in any Bond fan's list as a prospective Bond girl, especially given that she's been associated with romantic comedies and light-hearted sitcoms all through her career, but her convincing performance in Chloe and a dark attempt in Red Riding Hood are enough to shoot her right on top of anybody's list. It has been some time since we've had a Dr. Christmas Jones-like Bond girl on screen. Could Amanda be the one?

ANNE HATHAWAY
This actress has already bagged herself one of the most soughtafter roles in recent times Selina Kyle/Catwoman in
The Dark Knight Rises, the third edition in Christopher Nolan's Batman reboot series. Anne, who became an international star as Mia from The Princess Diaries series, has surely come a long way from her girl-nextdoor image.
