Colors reclaims No. 2 spot, Sony Pal gains

MUMBAI: While Colors reclaimed its No. 2 spot, Sony Pal was the biggest gainer among the Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) with an increase of 14 GVM (gross television viewership in millions).

After shedding 30 GVM in the week ended 21 February, Zee TV dropped to No. 3 in the eighth week of 2015. Its fiction property ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, which was the top fiction show in Week 7, also fell back to the third position on the chart by losing 0.67 TVM. Its other fiction property ‘Qubool Hai’ also dropped out of the top-10 list in Week 8; the show incurred a drop of 0.70 million TVM.

As per TAM data (sourced from subscribers) for the Hindi-speaking market, apart from Zee TV, Life OK and Epic also saw a fall in gross viewership of 14 GVM and 2 GVM respectively.

In terms of overall viewership, the Hindi GEC genre saw a week-on-week fall of 8 GVM and recorded a viewership of 2613 GVM.

On the contrary, the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 saw the sports genre double its viewership compared to the trailing week. In Week 8, the genre saw a huge jump of 276 GVM to report 474 GVM.

The Hindi news genre saw a steep fall of 101 GVM to record 307 GVM. The Hindi movie genre also fell by 22 GVM to register 987 GVM during the week.

Top fiction
Star Plus continued its reign at the top with five fiction shows. ‘Saathiya Saath Nibhana’ sprang to the top with 11.97 TVM, followed by ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ with 10.57 TVM. Other Star Plus fiction shows that made it to the top 10 list were ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, ‘Tu Mera Hero’ and ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’.
Colors had two shows in the top fiction list. While ‘Sasural Simar Ka’ gained viewership to score 9.23 TVM, the channel’s other show ‘Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi’ entered the list with 6.7 TVM.

While Zee TV’s ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ fell two notches on the chart to No. 3, its other show ‘Qubool Hai’ dropped out of the list.
SAB, as always, remained strong with ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ even as it saw a slight fall in viewership to 7.35 TVM.

SET marked the launch of its horror series ‘Aahat’ during the week, which saw a viewership of 2.9 million in its launch episode and averaged at 2.8 million for the week.

Top non-fiction/ weekend shows
Colors’ non-fiction properties ‘Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi’ and ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ witnessed an increase in viewership and continued to be top shows, recording 6.7 TVM and 6.2 TVM respectively, during the week.

With 5 TVM, Zee TV’s ‘Neeli Chhatri Wale’ claimed the third position.

SET’s ‘CID’ slipped to the forth spot with 4.6 TVM, while Star Plus’ ‘MasterChef India’ recorded 3.9 TVM.

Special events/ movies
During the week under review, Colors aired the world television premiere of the Hindi feature film ‘Ungli’. The two-and-a-half-hour premiere fetched a viewership of 1.2 million and garnered a gross viewership of 6.1 million.

Star Plus’ 2.5-hour special event titled ‘Star Valentine’s Day’ got a viewership of 2.9 million and a gross viewership of 14.5 million.

Zee TV also aired a three-hour-long Valentine’s Day special event, ‘Locha-e-Ulfat’, which delivered a viewership of 2.1 million and a gross viewership of 12.4 million.
