The show that used to provide 10-15% of the channel's viewership is now delivering 5%. Comedy Nights Bachao has performed well in its first two weeks
Though both Star Plus & Colors grew in week 37; Colors gained 8 GRPs more than Star primarily from its weekday fiction shows. It has 6 shows in top 10 shows of the genre including- Meri Aashiqui Tumse hi, Comedy Nights Bachao, Udaan, Swaragini, Chakravartin Ashok Samrat & Balika Vadhu. Star Plus has 3 shows in top 10- Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Diya Aur Bati Hum & Sathiya Sath Nibhana, whereas Zee TV has one show which is also the No.1 show in the genre currently- Kumkum Bhagya.
If we consider Hindi Speaking market without LC1 towns then Colors goes ahead of Star Plus by 2 GRPs; this suggests the stronghold of Colors' on larger towns & Star's on smaller towns.
Colors has managed to shift its focus away from Comedy Nights with Kapil which not very long ago used to provide 10-15% of the channel's viewership consuming nearly equal % of duration but in week 37 it received just over 4% of channel duration and delivered 5% of channel's viewership. Comedy Nights Bachao (wk 37: 3.5 TVR%) performed well in its first 2 weeks of performance and even scored better prime time ratings than CNWK (wk 37: 2.3 TVR%).
Indian Idol Junior of Sony concluded with Grand Finale which scored 2.3 TVR% Vs average 1.4 TVR% it got in previous 10 episodes.
As Zee TV continues to bring in new shows like- 'Yeh Vaada Raha (10 PM), Lajvanti (10:30 PM) & 'I Can Do that' a talent show hosted by Farhan Akhtar, Colors bringing in Bigg Boss with Salman Khan; It can be said that competition in the genre is only going to get hotter in coming days
