MUMBAI: Colors’ leading non-fiction
property ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ will
continue to have people in stitches, but only
on Sundays.

The channel will now air the comedy show
on Sundays at 10 pm. Earlier in October
2013, the show had turned into a weekly,
making way for Colors’ mega-project ‘24’.
After the culmination of the first season of
‘24’, ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ again
returned to its bi-weekly format.

Launched in June 2013, the comedy show
quickly climbed up the ratings chart to
establish its position as the leading non-
fiction property for Colors. Along with the
show, host Kapil Sharma also became
extremely popular and started getting
Bollywood offers.

After having to let go of a Yash Raj Films
movie owing to his commitment to the bi-
weekly (Sat–Sun) show, Sharma is now
making sure that his debut film with Abbas-
Mastan does not suffer the same fate.

Sharma tweeted, “Sirf aaj ayega comedy
nights saturday ko…Uske baad every sunday
at 10 pm.. Dont forget to watch doctor
special tonight ” (Only tonight ‘Comedy
Nights’ will come on Saturday… after this,
only on Sundays at 10 pm)

From 19 January, Colors will launch a crime-
based show ‘Code Red’ that will air at 10:30
pm from Monday to Saturday. Meanwhile,
it’s fiction property ‘Meri Aashiqui Tum Se
Hi’ will extend till Saturday; it will air at 10
pm to fill up the slot vacated by Kapil’s
show.

While ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ continues
to rule the roost as the highest-rated non-
fiction show, Colors’ other non-fiction
property ‘Bigg Boss’ has also gone up on the
ratings table, eventually overtaking the
comedy show, after getting an extension
earlier this week and introducing Farah Khan
as the host of the new series ‘Bigg Boss
Halla Bol’.

Colors will soon launch the new season of
its action reality show ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’
with Rohit Shetty as host, followed by
‘India’s Got Talent’ at a later date. The
channel is also working on the second
season of the espionage series ’24’ with
Anil Kapoor.

Earlier in June 2014, there were rumours of
‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ turning into a
weekly when Sharma, on a Sunday morning,
tweeted, “Comedy nights’ is going off air
from September. V will come back with new
characters n new set. Till den. Keep
smiling.”

There were also reports that Sharma wanted
to change the format to once a week as he
would be busy shooting for three films under
the Yash Raj banner. However, the show
continued as a bi-weekly.

While the show has turned weekly from 11
January, Sharma will also appear in live
shows to maintain his rapport with the fans.
After performing live in Dubai in September,
the team is now set to travel to Malaysia
for a live show in Kuala Lumpur on 21
February 2015.

Recently the show got new sponsors and the
current presenting sponsor is Vivo
Smartphones, replacing Dabur Amla, and the
powered-by sponsor is Syska LED, replacing
Raymond.
