Prabhu Deva may soon get his wish of marrying Nayanthara as a Chennai court sanctions his divorce from his wife

The drama regarding actor-director Prabhu Deva's divorce from his wife Ramlat seems to be gaining momentum. The estranged couple, were to finalize their divorce on June 30, but failed to turn up at the family court in Chennai. While Ramlat's lawyer cited that she couldn't make it to the court because her son was unwell, Prabhu said that he had been busy shooting in the outskirts of Chennai and could not show up either. However, they turned up in court two days later.

The couple had applied for a divorce with mutual consent last year and has been visiting the courtroom on a regular basis. On July 2, the family court in Chennai sanctioned the divorce of the feuding couple. But soon after it was sanctioned, sources say that Prabhu appealed to the family court to grant his divorce before July 10 (the original date announced for the legal divorce) as he had to go abroad for the shoot of his upcoming film. Now reports say that the court is likely to grant him the divorce on July 7.

Sources say that the couple looked extremely happy after the court's decision and were smiling throughout the proceedings. Prabhu has agreed to provide three houses and a deposit of `10 lakh for his children. The couple had signed a joint affidavit for the divorce and had submitted the same in the family court last year.

Meanwhile, the question on everybody's mind is whether Prabhu will marry actor Nayanthara, and if so, when? The tension between Ramlat and Prabhu began when the actor-director started dating Nayanthara, with whom he worked in Villu. Earlier, Superstar Rajinikanth had also intervened in the matter and had asked Prabhu and Ramlat to get back together, but in vain.
