Even as BARC has opened up television viewership data in rural India, distribution fee for broadcasters on Doordarshan’s free DTH service has started climbing.

In the just-concluded 25th e-auction, the highest price paid was Rs 7.6 crore (Rs 76 million), beating the previous record of Rs 6.5 crore (Rs 65 million) paid by News 24.

Sony Pictures Networks’ re-run GEC Sony Pal has renewed its slot with a bid of Rs 7.6 crore (Rs 76 million).

The Hindi GEC had launched on Freedish in February 2015. Hindi movie channel Manoranjan TV pipped Sri Adhikari Brothers’ Hindi movie channel Dillagi for LC1 towns to win the slot for Rs 5.5 crore (Rs 55 million).

Close on the heels of raking in Rs 31.2 crore (Rs 312 million) from the auction of five slots in its 24th e-auction, Freedish generated Rs 13.1 crore (Rs 131 million) from the auction of two slots in the 25th e-auction.

The 25th e‐auction was held on 18 January.

The reserve price per DTH slot was Rs 4.30 crore (Rs 43 million). C1 India, Noida conducted the e-auction on behalf of Prasar Bharati.

The successful channels are required to deposit the first instalment of Rs 1.10 crore (Rs 11 million) of reserve price within one month from the placement of the TV channel on Freedish along with Service Tax @ 14.5 per cent on the total bid amount.

The second instalment amounting to Rs 1.10 crore (Rs 11 million) is to be deposited in the second month from the placement of the channel.

The balance bid amount should be deposited on or before six months from the placement of the channel on Freedish, failing which the deposited amount will be forfeited and channel will be discontinued from Freedish after a 21 days’ discontinuation notice.
