Doordarshan following a petition filed by NGO Sindhi
Sangat demanding the government to give directions to
the public broadcaster to start a 24-hour news channel for
the Sindhi community.
Justice VP Vaish directed the MIB and Doordarshan to
examine the issue and file an affidavit. The matter has
been listed for further hearing on 22 January 2016.
The NGO, which claims to be working towards preserving
and promoting the 5,000-year-old Sindhi culture and
language, has been demanding a 24-hour channel for
Sindhis for many years now.
The NGO had petitioned the previous United Progressive
Alliance (UPA) also for a DD Sindhi channel.
