Deutsche Telekom has commenced offering its IPTV service Entertain via satellite.

The TV channels are brought to the TV screen through Astra (19.2° East) while the interactive components such as video-on-demand and the electronic programme guide (EPG) are delivered through the ADSL line.

With Entertain Sat, viewers can receive more than 270 TV channels and around 170 radio stations via Astra including the HD versions of the largest commercial broadcasters such as RTL, Sat.1 and ProSieben through Astra platform HD+ which is accessible free-of-chare for one year.

In addition to digital television, Entertain Sat comprises internet access with 3 to 16 Mbit/s and a telephone line with a flat-rate for domestic fixed-line numbers with the price tag starting at €39.95 per month. The hybrid HD hard-disc recorder Media Receiver 500 Sat offering 500 GB storage capacity costs an additional €5.95 per month.

Through the collaboration with satellite operator SES Astra, Telekom can increase the technical reach of Entertain to 75% of German households. Entertain's pay-TV packages including football Bundesliga offering "LIGA total!" are, however, not available via satellite.
