n3D™, the 3D channel available exclusively on DIRECTV, is on a quest to find the next 3D filmmaker with the 2011 DIRECTV n3D™ Film Invitational, Presented by Panasonic.
In April, 18 up-and-coming filmmakers were invited to pitch their creative concepts for a 3D short film before a panel of distinguished film and television experts. Those 18 filmmakers were whittled down to six finalists.
Each of the six finalists was loaned a Panasonic 3D camera and equipment and was provided with Panasonic’s 3D camera training and Technicolor’s 3D Master Class. Each filmmaker was also given a $10,000 production budget to create their short film.
At a special event on July 20th in Beverly Hills, California, DIRECTV will screen the films and announce the winner of the n3D™ Excellence Award. The winning filmmaker will receive $25,000. Additionally, Technicolor will announce the recipient of the Technicolor 3D Technical Achievement Award worth $5,000.
The films will air on n3D™ in the Fall.
DIRECTV offers more 3D programming than any other television provider in the country. n3D™, powered by Panasonic, (Ch. 103) is now available at no additional cost to millions of DIRECTV HD customers. DIRECTV HD customers will need a 3D television set and 3D glasses to view 3D programming on DIRECTV.
