MUMBAI: Starting 1 January, Dish TV has removed 22 IndiaCast UTV-distributed channels from their packs and put them a la carte. But the direct-to-home (DTH) operator is running a special offer whereby charges for these a la carte channels, including Colors, Bindass, MTV and UTV Action, are waived if someone makes a request for them.

Dish TV has added some other channels to the a la carte repertoire which are being offered free ‘on request’. The channels will, thus, be available to subscribers without any extra cost.

“We have taken the channels on RIO [Reference Interconnect Offer] basis and will continue to pay IndiaCast their fair share. For consumers, we are offering those channels as a la carte, without any charge. And we have added a couple of more channels to the a la carte list. If you compare, the consumer is going to get more channels for the same price. And he can select multiple channels from the a la carte offering,” Dish TV CEO RC Venkateish told Tele visionPost.com.

Dish TV website has been updated with the information on the new packs. This displays the new a la carte channels available free of cost. Dish TV has also added Ten Sports, Sahara One, Filmy and a few more channels to the a la carte list.

IndiaCast UTV, said an executive, is keeping a close watch on how the scenario is unfolding and may move the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) if Dish TV fails to comply with the rules by bundling these a la carte channels as part of any pack.

Dish TV and content aggregator IndiaCast UTV have locked horns on the latter’s ‘on request channels’ scheme. Dish TV has been running a scroll that its customers can select the channels they want to see by contacting its customer care by SMS or phone.

However, it did not go down well with IndiaCast, whose content agreement with Dish TV ended on 31 December.

Later, both parties took the other to the TDSAT to sort out the matter.
