Direct-to-home (DTH) operator Dish TV has added newly launched high-definition (HD) sports channel Sony ESPN HD. This takes its total HD channel count to 50.

Sony ESPN HD will be available at channel no. 87. Sony ESPN and Sony ESPN HD launched on 17 January.

Sony ESPN replaced Sony Kix, while Sony ESPN HD is a new channel. Dish TV India CEO Arun Kapoor said, “Dish TV has always taken a lead in enhancing the TV viewing experience for our audience.

To further add spruce to the sports lovers this sporting season, Dish TV has added Sony ESPN HD to its bouquet of channels.

The company not only has the first mover advantage in the DTH category but will also be accredited with the highest number of HD channels across the industry with a whopping 50 HD channels.

“Our endeavour is to increase affinity with our audiences by providing them the choice of content they would like to watch.

Latest trends suggest that the growth of the HD category over the past year, together with rising sales of flat panel TVs (LED/LCD), has added a new dimension to superior HD viewing experience.”

This is the major drawback of dishtv that they are not offering 5.1 audio on majority of HD channels. Only 10 out of 50 HD channels has 5.1 audio....

I wonder is there any technical difficulty in providing 5.1 audio service or is it some kind of contractual issues with the broadcaster ?
