Indian security establishment has not yet given up hope to persuade its US counterparts to let the US President Barack Obama arrive as the chief guest for Republic Day parade accompanying President Pranab Mukherjee in his limousine.

Highly placed sources said that while all the other security issues have been sorted out, President Obama's arrival to Rajpath and departure still remains open and the security staff accompanying POTUS may relent and agree to their request.

"It is still being debated and we hope that instead of traveling in his separate limousine called the Beast, president Obama will arrive and depart in our President's car. We have met and answered all the concerns of the US security staff accompanying president Obama," sources said.

In case US relents and agrees, it will be the first time that president Obama would travel in a limousine other than the Beast.

The reason for India's insistence perhaps lies in Modi government's keenness to showcase the Republic Day parade as an iconic event and make it a visual treat to be telecast across the world.

Sensing an opportunity to make brand Modi a global success with president Obama seating next to him in Republic Day parade, the PMO had instructed Doordarshan, the national broadcaster, a couple of months to put up a majestic show of the parade.

In turn, Doordarshan requested the ministry of external affairs to request all Indian embassies and missions abroad to put up giant screens in their compounds to see the parade. Doordarshan has also made arrangements to beam live broadcast of RD parade to SAARC countries and Australia.

It has also made all arrangements to beam the telecast live even to US in the NTSC system if the US authorities desire so.

Doordarshan will be using 24 top end high definition Sony cameras (last year there were 18 cameras) to beam the parade from various angles. To cameras will be put atop India Gate to give full scale panoramic view of full Rajpath – from India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhawan.

It has roped in two commentators each in English and Hindi to give live commentary of the parade - Komal GB Singh and Gaurav Dhawan Lal for English and Shivendra Chaturvedi and Sanjeev Upadhyaya for Hindi commentary.

Doordarshan has hired over 100 professional engineers and cameramen to make the RD parade a never before visual treat and be remembered for years to come. Before the parade starts, Doordarshan has planned to show a short documentary of four minutes each on president Obama and president Mukherjee. The national broadcaster will do rehearsal of the live coverage on January 23 to clear any glitches.
