MUMBAI: The European soccer event, Euro 2012, has moved away from ESPN Star Sports (ESS) to Neo Sports.

The rights will be fosr the Indian subcontinent (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives). The prized tournament will be played in Poland and Ukraine among the top 16 European teams in June 2012.

ESS had aired Euro 2004 and 2008.

Neo Sports Broadcast COO Prasana Krishnan said, "This is by far one of the most high profile soccer events and will definitely garner high quality viewership for the channel. It is the second biggest soccer property after the World Cup. The timings will also be good."

The partnership between Uefa and Neo Sports covers Uefa Euro 2012, 2013 Uefa European Under 21 Championship and the Uefa Women's Euro 2013.

The previous edition of the Euro Cup in 2008 was telecast live in 203 countries and the average audience figure for a live match exceeded 146 million. There was a substantial increase for the finals where the average audience figure was around 237 million.

Bad news as ESPN HD can telecast the match in full HD... :(:

DONT WORRY MYSTIC DEAR NEO SPORTS TOO IS LAUNCHING NEO SPORTS HD BY DIWALI

also having snatched the rights of french open from ess, neo needs to bring its 2 channels in HD.

Well they have plans in full swing to bring neo sports hd very soon and thats why they r busy buying rights for key events. regarding neo cricket hd i believe its much better to have a event based cricket hd channel as full time hd channels of cricket waste space of dth operators and r of no use except when there is live cricket. event based cricket hd channels r fine, no wastage of space, add channels when needed
