India News Group is planning three more regional Hindi news channels, following the launch on 12 September of its Hindi TV service in Punjab.

By the end of the year, Himachal; Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand; and Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will also be provided with their own tailored Hindi news channels, according to Exchange4Media.

“We want to have presence in entire Hindi speaking markets of the country,” said Rakesh Sharma, chief executive, India News Group is quoted as saying. “Now, by the end of the year, with the launch of three more channels, we will be able to cover entire Hindi speaking market.”

India News launched its national Hindi news channel in 2008, and since then has rolled out channels for Haryana, Bihar and Jharkhand. In May 2010 it unveiled India News Rajasthan.

The broadcasting group is also reportedly planning an English news channel and a Hindi general entertainment channel for 2012.
