Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 to release in Dhanbad

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who is presenting his directorial venture Gangs Of Wasseypur (GOW) in two parts, was restrained from releasing the part one of film in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, where the movie is set. But he has now acquired the necessary permission to promote part two in that

Based on the underworld coal mafia, the first part of the film, which was set in the ’60s-’70s, attracted controversy after the residents of Naya Bazaar in Wasseypur objected to certain portions in the film. They claimed certain dialogues were defamatory to the locals. It eventually led to the film being banned in that region.

A source close to the project says, “The makers were not even allowed to promote the film in Dhanbad ahead of its release.”

But the success of the first part of the film has apparently piqued the public’s curiosity for the second installment. Here, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui will play Faisal Khan, a character based on dreaded don Faheem Khan, who is currently serving a life imprisonment sentence. “GOW 2 is set in 2000, so unlike the first part, all the characters shown in the film are alive and relatable,” says the source.

The film’s spokesperson says, “Anurag wanted to go to Dhanbad when GOW1 was releasing, but we didn’t get the necessary permissions then. Now things have been sorted out after the success of the first part, so we are planning to visit Dhanbad soon.” However, Anurag will not believe it till it actually happens. “We are hoping and trying our best to make it to Dhanbad this time,” he says.
