Discussion General Discussions, News & Updates On Indian TV Channels

Everything failed because of delayed digitalization whether it's CBeebies or CBS channels.

Analog cable hardly offered 80 channels. We can't expect a dedicated sports news channel on same.

That was a factor but several things led to failure of many chs, CBS channels for example did not have good distribution, content or packaging.. They should have opted for a partner like Sony or Star or others to be a winner. CBeebies had all things going right but being a public broadcaster it faced difficulty in paying huge carriage fee to operators hence decided to withdraw from here, digitization though would have helped but not sure if just small monthly fee would have been enough to sustain it... Now they had applied to relaunch but dwindling BBC Earth ratings has dampened hopes

That model failed long back with ESPNews getting launched but finding no takers be it at operator or subscriber end
He means 1sports launching a news programme at 9pm prime slot. But i doubt whether people will subscribe just to watch that.

If it was a show like cricinfo weeklies coming on a channel like Sony Six, that's fairly acceptable. But if we imagine, hypothetically, Sportscenter coming on 1sports, i wouldn't subscribe to that..

Average person thinks Disney as a Cartoon Company, probably 75+% people might not even know that Star is owned by Disney.
What we think: Disney = Princess, Aladdin, Jungle Book, Lion King, maximum Big Hero 6. Not to mention Hannah Montana and High School Musical. This is the impression of common people.

The reality: Disney is the owner of 20th Century Fox, Fox Networks Group, Marvel Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm (Star Wars), ABC and ESPN networks, A+E Networks and finally Star India and Asia. This makes it the world's biggest entertainment company, and yet we best associate Disney with cartoons.

So has Disney decided to take over or is this conjunction at this point?
Disney doesn't control A&E brands. It's a JV b/n Disney and Hearst which owns 50:50 across the world apart for EU where Hearst owns 100% stake. What ever said and done they will go with a network which might be profitable for them at that time.

They own Touchstone pictures and Hollywood Pictures, used to own Miramax. People's conception was that Disney never released an R rated movie. I think in the last year apart from Jojo Rabbit every movie From fox is R rated only. Even Disney distributed Glass under Buena Vista International, which 99% doesn't know it is Disney's retired Distribution label.

Are ITV Network National News Channels shutting down? Regular programming has stopped and it is airing older random stuff from archives

New rates coming into effect from Feb 1 or it will depend on honorable court verdict post hearing in TRAI Tariff Order revision matter tomorrow? If TRAI wins tomorrow then most probably old rates will continue till the new deadline and then complete overhaul will happen, if broadcasters get stay then also old rates will remain applicable. Unlike earlier this time final decision will come out sooner bcoz tariff order is already rolled out and changes either way r in immediate need to b brought in
