MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai police have arrested Hathway Cable & Datacom official Amit Nag, who was on the run ever since a criminal complaint was filed against him by his former employer Digicable.

The Navi Mumbai police will hand over Nag to Kolkata police who will take him into custody.

The Kolkata police had last year issued an arrest warrant against Nag on a complaint filed by Digicable Comm, the Kolkata subsidiary of Digicable, for forgery, misappropriation, theft and conspiracy.

TelevisionPost.c om could not independently verify Nag’s arrest from the Navi Mumbai police. However, the development was confirmed by sources in Digicable and Hathway.

Nag had moved Calcutta High Court seeking anticipatory bail, but his plea was rejected by the bench. Subsequently, Nag challenged the HC order in the apex court by filing a special leave petition, which got dismissed on an application filed by Digicable.

In July, the Anti-Fraud Detection Department of Kolkata Police had arrested a Hathway official along with a cable operator in Kolkata, in connection with a complaint filed by Digicable against Nag and others.

Subsequent to these arrests and based on information provided by the arrested Hathway staff, police raided a three-storey building near Raja Bazar Science College and seized an estimated 1.5 lakh set-top boxes (STB) belonging to Digicable.

In its complaint, Digicable alleged that Nag misused his position as CEO of Digicable Comm to forge agreements, share vital information to a rival MSO and misappropriate digital materials, thereby causing huge financial loss to the company.

Digicable, which had appointed Nag as the CEO of Digicable Comm on 1 January 2010, had significantly lost ground in Kolkata following his exit in December last year.

Nag later aligned with Hathway in Kolkata as consultant.
