Star India will not adopt 16:9 on SD broadcast anytime soon, this is what i can state based on observing strategy. They consider this feature as a major factor to have pull towards HD channel which in reality is not quite true.

Sony on other hand has been a front runner but for some reason kept BBC Earth and Sony Mix still in 4:3 format.

In my opinion nowadays people can get HD boxes almost at same price as SD variant hence operators should convince people to buy HD boxes as well as upgrade SD ones. As this happens, broadcasters should discontinue SD feed and have just HD feed with affordable price. In some cases exceptions r fine like where SD feed is necessary so as to target a specific audience base and get ads onboard , English GEC/Movies , English News should surely have just HD Feed but Hindi GEC/Movies, Music, Infotainment or kids genre can have both feeds if such is need but content should be different on both versions.

Broadcasters can have more Niche HD Channels to provide more mature or evolved content just like Star Movies Select, &Prive HD, &Xplor HD, MN+ etc

Anyone subscribed to HD feed please cross check if this is downscaled SD Feed or a separate SD feed like before with change in AR. Quite possible that broadcasters will move to HD only feed in coming months to save costs

Now picture quality looking great
HD Feed along with SD Version also looking More Sharp Now........

This is most irritating part from Star. Atleast their Sports SD offerings should now have to Convert in 16:9 AR as Sports especially Cricket on SS Select 1 & 2 with Black Cinemascopic Bar is just untolerable.
Also their 2 Movie Offerings (Movies OK & Star Utsav Movies) should start telecasting their Movies in 16:9 AR as it will help Subscribers to Watch their Favourite Movies morely in Broader aspect.
Sony on other hand has been a front runner but for some reason kept BBC Earth and Sony Mix still in 4:3 format.
Again SPN fails to deliver their Brain in these 2 Offerings. Already Indian Subscribers are running Short of HD Music Channels. So this is the Right Time for Sony Mix to change AR in 16:9 like of SET / Sony Sab / Sony Pix.

Absolutely. HD STBs are now available for very affordable Prices and Most Broadcasters are willing that Major Indian Subscribers should opt for HD Viewership.

Previously SPN tasted the Dust with 3 Exxclusive HD offerings on their Kitty. And after New TRAI Regime Broadcasters have to think Many Times before Launching any HD only Channel. But definitely in Upcoming Days Niche HD Only Channels are much needed in Hindi + English Movie Genre , Music & Good Infotainment Contents.

Let's see if in coming days separate feed remains for History TV18 or present HD one stops

Just HD Feed concept will catch on, slowly it will spread across genres.

Well Sony made a mistake to drop LePlex and Rox, TRAI rules were a golden opportunity to get proper distribution by signing fresh agreement rather than old system of selling bulk long term deals which operators not readily agreed to. Also right pricing and packaging is key, TRAI rule help bring price down and 15% cap rule will help further. Broadcasters themselves need to act intelligently on these things, niche channels need to have best content,,packaging, pricing, distribution and viewership/ads will follow. Sony has been biggest beneficiary of TRAI rules, earlier bigger rivals took all the sweet deals while Sony got raw treatment

Star India has remote chance of making transition, Sony can do .. Infact Sony Mix should upgrade to HD and use same feed for SD subscribers. BBC Earth is facing hard time... I m more worried how and till when it will survive if problematic areas r not taken care of

I feel shutting down Sony Le Plex HD and Sony Rox HD was a very rash and unplanned decision. Especially the latter. It was a GREAT Hindi HD music channel. We are now forced to watch MTV Beats HD as MTunes HD shut down as well (Airtel users don't even have that).

Perhaps Sony will realise that it NEEDS to have a Hindi HD music channel. Sony Mix HD should be launched to cater to song lovers. The market is too underserved.

Indeed missing Sony Rox HD very badly. So Good HD offering for Hindi Music stopped overnight and the Audiences left with only One Choice. Sony Rox HD should stay for Every Music Lovers.
As @dino29 Brother told Definitely SPN should start Sony Mix HD with so variable Library of Songs.

Star India should Work On their SD variant of Sports Cluster to Upgrade the Telecast Technology. Sometimes SS3 in SD Format looks & Feels horrible to Watch.

But I think & hope that History SD in 16:9 AR will stay now and Subscribers will enjoy this Feed as well as the Content because the Channel showing Good Result at the Barc TRP Ratings for V18.

The collapse of a big network's channel is greatly benefiting a small network 7 years later. Most of the top shows of Dangal (India's No. 1 channel) are old Imagine shows. Very few are original.
And Dangal despite having all the ratings and reusing old libraries. Still airs shows in 4:3. We question Star and Sony. While letting broadcasters like Dangal have the cake and eat it too.

Enterr10 is a small network with a small budget. Most of its viewers likely have SD CRT TVs. It need not bother about 16:9 let alone HD. Star, Sony and Zee are the ones to target.

I don't think your response is appropriate for this thread.

U r comparing 2 quite different companies with entirely opposite business models. Dangal buys rights of old shows, gets high ratings but ad rates won't be much thus margins enough to have profitable venture. Biggies r on opposite side of spectrum, more interms of everything

Also most of old shows r shot in 4:3 picture format, no point spending money to upscale it for channels like Dangal which has to keep costs squeezed to remain viable
