Indian MSO DEN has started installing STBs in cities covered under phase II as a voluntary step to meet the next phase of digitization deadline. The MSO plans to install 3.5 to 4 million STBs in the 39 cities covered in phase II. The MSO claims to have installed around 2.5 million STBs in the four metros covered under phase I of digitization.
S.N Sharma, CEO, DEN Networks said, “We are focusing on digitising our subscribers across the four metros, and are not aggressively looking at getting new subscribers at this stage. We anticipate that as the deadline gets closer, several smaller players may not be ready for digitisation and we could partner with them to get new subscribers,”.
DEN will launch high-speed broadband packages and other value-added-services in the next few months of switching to digital. Currently the company offers VAS services such as games, audio blogging and applications that provides update on local restaurants and other context based services.
