Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister, Govt of Jammu and Kashmir has asked the state authorities to draw a calendar of organising Melas in various tourist places to attract tourists and generate economic activities for locals, according to an ANI report.Inaugurating the Cultural and Heritage Park at Chinar Bagh in Srinagar on Monday, he also asked the authorities to exploit the handicraft skill and natural beauty of the state.

Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Govt of India, who was also present on the occasion, complemented the state government for achieving new milestones in the development of tourist infrastructure in the state. Farooq Abdullah also underlined the need of proper maintenance of the Chinar Bagh. "This will be an important recreational and entertainment avenue available to the locals and it is their duty to take every care for its maintenance", Abdullah said.

People feel that revival of Chinar Bagh as a Cultural and Heritage Park would offer great attraction to the tourists."This is a very good step by the government to revive the Chinar garden, and today it has been a gift for people of the valley by the government. This area also witnesses huge rush of the tourists and it will also be nice place for locals as well," said Shabir Ahmad, Minister of State for Power, Jammu and Kashmir.
