SHOOTING IN THE HEAT: On a hot day,
three girls and a man frantically came
running to a guy selling 'machine ka thanda
paani' in Lajpat Nagar market and enquired
whether he had seen a 16-year-old girl who
had got lost, while a camera kept capturing
their every movement. It was the shoot of the
upcoming show Shastri Sisters that was
underway in the market. Line producer
Navmeet Singh told us that the cast and the
crew have also shot in other locations in
Delhi, including India Gate, Chandni Chowk
and Qutub Minar, for the show which will
explore the journey of four sisters from
Kanpur who come to Delhi after their father
is transferred to the capital. The cast
members had a tough time shooting in the
sweltering heat as they frequently asked for
water and had to do touch-ups at regular
intervals as the sweat ruined their makeup.
Sonal Vengurlekar, one of the sisters on the
show, said, "We are shooting the sequence
where the youngest sister gets lost in the
market and the rest of the sisters search for
her. The youngest one is told by a man that
he'll drop her to her home if she
accompanies him."
UNSAFE IN THE CITY : The actresses of the
show were complaining about the heat and
how it was making them feel sick. They also
spoke about how they find the city unsafe,
and have been cautious enough to not go out
alone to shop. Neha Pednekar said, "I've been
to Delhi two-three times earlier, but I've had
unpleasant experiences, which is why I don't
like to step out much. I've faced eve-teasing
here. Therefore if I have to go out, I always
move in a group of people."

PEOPLE HERE DON'T RESPECT GIRLS : Neha's
co-star Pragati Chourasiya, who plays the
youngest sister, in the show, echoes similar
sentiments. Pragati, who has worked in Bade
Achhe Lagte Hain and Jodha Akbar, said that
men here are not respectful towards women.
"When I step out, people recognise me as the
girl from Jodha Akbar or Bade... and they
come to me with requests for autographs or
photographs. Instead of seeking permission by
saying, 'Ma'am, can we please have a picture
with you?' They thrust the phone in your face
or try to get too close to you, which is quite
uncomfortable," she said.
MY STORY IS SIMILAR TO THE SHOW: Ishita
Ganguly, who plays one of the sisters in the
show, says, "I'm from Kolkata and I have
worked in some shows and films there. I
bagged the show by coincidence. Main toh
Mumbai ghoomne gayi thi, and I just
happened to audition for the show and I got
the role. Now, I've moved to Mumbai, so it's
similar to the way these sisters move from
Kanpur to Delhi in the show."

DELHI HAS A UNIQUE FLAVOUR: Siddharth
Kumar, director of the show, told us, "I am
from Delhi and I love shooting in the city. Of
course, it is crazily hot at this time and it is
tough for the actors. But in my view, Delhi
has one of the best locations. It has the best
roads and some of the best monuments.
Moreover, within a five-hour drive from
Delhi, you can get to places like Kasauli,
Jaipur, Alwar, Agra. But when it comes to
Mumbai, you can only reach Lonavala after a
five-hour drive. Also, Delhi has this unique
flavour, a Punjabi touch to it."
