Yes, the show was supposed to be back this year, but got delayed due to other reason. But the information is that this show will be for Sony upcoming kannada channel.

there is no confirmed news about the launch of a channel from any where, thats why i have not posted it anywhere.
but when asked why colors was not doing Kotyadipati new season , they gave 2 reason, absence of Puneeth and that show is for Sony to enter kannada market.
they are testing tenali rama and some sony shows in kannada to see response.

but to your question if sony launching kannada tv channel. Currently no solid evidence to confirm. that's the major reason KBC kannada is getting delayed.

On somewhat related note though not 100% aligned to this thread,

If Sony really wishes to enter Kannada market, isn't it better to acquire Colors Super?

I know there is a clause in CCI nod for Disney-Viacom merger which bars Sony, Zee, Sun and few networks cannot buy it. Not sure if its a blanket statement which applies to all the channels that has to be either sold or shutdown or based on the market of that channel which it caters. For Colors Super, barring Zee and Sun networks makes sense since they already have a good chunk in Kannada GEC market, where as barring Sony doesn't make any sense as there is no presence of the channel at all. May be reverse could apply in other markets.
