Srinagar,Apr 1:With blocking of cable TV,the cable operators here today said the digitization in the Kashmir Valley was delayed due to absence of necessary logistics. The operators said the they have not yet been able to get details about the subscription to enter into agreement with satellite channels.
According to the Union Ministry of Information and broadcasting guidelines, the Digital Addressable System (DAS) license holders are given “subscription of different satellite channels by various channel providers.” “But unfortunately here we are yet to get any details about the subscription that is why the digitalization process is not gaining pace. But once the subscription is issued we will be able to cater to the requirement of the subscribers,” said a cable operator.
DAS licenses are issued by the Centre government to cable operators who can carry on transformation of analogue cable to digital one. “Only DAS license holders can provide set top boxes to subscribers,” an official said.
But according to sources, another reason for the delaying of digitization in Kashmir is that cable operators have not received the stock of set top boxes which was to be imported from China.
Pertinently, Cable TV in the Valley went off air from Monday as deadline set by the Union Ministry of Information to replace cable TV set up with digital set top boxes ended.
