Discussion Late fee charged by DTH operators.

I am starting this thread to have discussion on late fee/processing fee charged by dth operators like airtel, dishtv. Pls mention if your dth/cable operators also do same.
We all know DTH operate on prepaid model. What is this late fee for? Just compare it with prepaid mobile. I can understand if it is there for postpaid business model. This issue must be taken with TRAI. Pls give ur opinion.

The news about Airtel was new to me. Wondering why should a customer pay a late fee for a prepaid service.

Remembering those days when Bajaj finance was trying to charge me for not taking a loan in the name of EMI card charges (not using their card, aka not taking loan)

In US, some prepaid mobile services have a reconnection fee if you don't recharge immediately for next month. It could be like that.

Sundirect is not taking any late fees.Though it is shown in their site that rs,25 will be the reconnection charges.Dish TV is taking rs 25 as late fees.I think this matter should be taken care of by TRAI

I just checked the website of Orby TV (the only prepaid DTH in US). It doesn't charge any late/reconnection fees.

They are not providing any channel without balance then what's requirement of re-activation charge, it's not like they have to manually do something for reactivation. I think Airtel charges Rs 15 for user on less than Rs 350 monthly plan and Rs 20 for those whose monthly subscription is more than Rs 350 which again makes no sense as none of them can watch anything without balance.

For name sake you can name anything like activation charge, late charge, processing fee. But question is why this charge? When i recharge, i get channel. No recharge,no channel. Operators have no manual intervention to do for reactivation.

Perhaps for storing your information on their servers during inactivity period?
