MUMBAI: Want to launch a new
television channel? Wait, licence
approvals may take years. As
Prashant Chothani, owner of a clutch
of music and travel channels, found
out after he applied for licence to
launch four new channels.
Broadcasters have approached
Information and Broadcasting
minister Arun Jaitley to talk about
such delays. Many have applied for
new channels way back in 2012 and
these have not been processed.
Meanwhile, the marketplace has
changed and many find their
original business models outdated.
The Ministry of Information &
Broadcasting (MIB) has laid the
blame on the Ministry of Home
Affairs (MHA).
