MUMBAI: The Madras High Court has issued notices to multi-system operator (MSO) Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on a petition filed by Makkal TV, which is backed by Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) party.

The court has posted the matter for further hearing on 7 April.
The petition was filed after Arasu had switched off the transmission of the channel on 31 March midnight without providing any reason.

Makkal TV has pleaded that the HC direct the state-owned MSO to restore transmission of the channel in the same frequency.

The broadcaster alleged that Arasu’s action was “motivated, unilateral, illegal, and arbitrary in nature”. It also alleged that the decision violated Articles 19(1)(a) and 19(1)(g) of the Constitution of India guaranteeing freedom of expression and right to conduct business dealings.

It also submitted that it would suffer loss of ad revenue if the channel’s transmission was not restored.
