The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting ( MIB) has asked 182 free-to-air (FTA) and pay channels to provide IRD boxes to the Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) by 8 June for monitoring of their channels.

The said channels have to send the equipment to ADG, EMMC, Ramit Lala, AGM, BECIL, 10th Floor, Soochna Bhawan, New Delhi, under intimation to the ministry at email [email protected].

The channels include existing as well as new TV channel licensees that have not yet operationalised their licences.

As per the MIB notice, the channels are required to immediately provide one set of professional IRD for each TV channel permitted to them that can give SD-SDI output in case of HD channels, HD-SDI output, along with one spare IRD per bouquet to EMMC.

Moreover, the pay TV broadcaster/service providers are required to provide viewing cards (VC) with matching CAM modules for interfacing with demodulators to decrypt and demodulate the channels over IP.

The channels are also required to provide the technical details such as frequency, satellite, location of teleport, etc.

The FTA TV channels whose signals are not encrypted need not provide such equipment.

However, they have to inform about the frequency they are using currently.
