RANCHI: After switching from analogue to digital channels, many digitized set top box users will soon be able to avail of other value added services like interactive gaming, radio and internet usage.

Manthan Durang, which provides cable services to 70% of the total cable television users in the city, signed an agreement with IBM multiple system operator (MSO) that will help them provide better services to users.

"Cable connection is always better than any DTH connection. Cable has more bandwidth so they can display around 500 channels but DTH connection has a limit of up to 350 channels," said Sudeep Ghosh, director, Manthan Durang.

"The cable connection is even cheaper than DTH connections. Our maximum fee per month is Rs 250 and includes all the channels provided by any DTH connection and some extra too. In future, the cost can even be reduced based on the number of channels a person wants to watch. On the other hand, in DTH if you want to watch all the channels you will have to pay around Rs 600 or more," said Ghosh.

After people installed digitized set top boxes, they have been encountering several problems like late loading of channels or network errors.

"We have lived in an analogue era for more than 20 years and shifted to digitization in a notice of just a month. Whenever any big change is made, problems are always there. We request our customers to bear with us for some time and we promise to provide them international standard services in the coming days," Ghosh added.
