Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer MS Dhoni has earned Rs. 60 crore even before release

The Untold Story has been made on a budget of Rs. 80 crores. And to the happiness of its producers, it has reportedly recovered Rs. 60 crores already. No doubt the film is turning out to be a safe bet for its makers in terms of profits. “The movie has recovered 60 crores, by earning 45 crores for its satellites rights and 15 crores from all brands that have been involved in the film,” confirmed sources.

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story has created a huge buzz among brands who are extremely keen to tie up with the project. Leaving aside the 15 crores, the brands associated with the film will be spending lavishly on advertising and promotions too. From the very title of the film, one can figure out that the much-awaited movie M.S Dhoni : The Untold Story, is going to reveal the unknown facts of the ace Indian skipper.

A cricket film of this scale about a living legend has never been attempted before. And for a biopic, the makers were keen on revealing the unknown facts about the man behind the tag of a cricketer. They wanted to make the movie as realistic as possible. Hence, they chose to shoot at real locations which hold strong importance in Dhoni’s life. Director, Neeraj Pandey, has traced Dhoni’s story by shooting in his hometown Ranchi, at railway Kharagpur station where Dhoni was stationed as the TT and other relevant places.

The trailer of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story has so far received a stupendous response from the audience. While it seems to have set a new benchmark for sports biopics, its two songs ‘Besabriyaan’ and ‘Kaun Tujhe’ have also been trending the charts.

In the times when Bollywood is exploring the lives of several spokespersons like Milkha Singh and Mary Kom, aspirations are running high for MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. The film which is set for a September 30 release, also stars Anupam Kher, Bhumika Chawla and Kiara Advani.

MS Dhoni biopic ban: Pakistan film industry to face losses if Indo-Pak ties worsen

Pakistan’s film industry fears it may suffer a 70 per cent business loss if Indo-Pak ties worsen and Bollywood films are banned in the country. The fear among the industry people has been growing as they feel if the situation does not improve there would be calls to ban Indian films eventually.

“I don’t want to sound pessimistic but the truth is there has only been a boom in the cinema industry in Pakistan in the last few years because of the release of latest Bollywood and Hollywood films,” said Nadeem Mandviwalla, a know exhibitor, distributor and owner of the Atrium chain of cineplexes.

“I just hope the ties don’t remain tense on long-term basis. Even if there is a temporary ban we can survive but if there is any permanent ban you can expect lot of cinema houses and multiplexes to close down,” he said.

Omair Alavi, a popular film critic, said that due to the increase in cinema screens and revenues there had also been a resurgence of the Pakistani film industry. “We have seen number of Pakistani films release and do well and others are also lined up for release. But for a cinema industry to survive you need to produce at least 50 to 60 films in a year which we are not doing at present.”

Mandviwalla said 70 per cent of the business comes from Bollywood and Hollywood. “There is no alternative. If the ties worsen, it is going to affect everyone,” he said.

He, however, said that previously when Indian films were banned in Pakistan, business flourished underground with the sale of pirated DVDs and other such materials. “Now you have cable operators as well but I think if there is any ban it will also affect their programming,” he said.

Saleem Khan, who has been in the business for years, thinks there would not be a ban but if this happenes cinema owners might have to completely wrap up their business or shut a few screens to cut costs. “We don’t produce enough films to sustain ourselves throughout the year. We need to produce at least over 50 films annually,” Khan said.

Former Sindh Board of Film Censors chairman Fakhr-e-Alam said any such ban would result in “going back to the days where our screens were shut down and converted into shopping malls or apartments because there weren’t enough movies.”

Alam feels there is only one hope for industry people in case of a ban on Bollywood films and that is the Pakistan government must provide funds for production of films. Cinepax Cinemas Assistant Marketing Manager Abid Ali Zaidi said if there was a “temporary” ban the cinema chains would manage for a while by screening old Pakistani films.

“We are already planning to do that from October as an alternative,” Zaidi said. Since Indian films were allowed to be imported and screened the cinema industry business has picked up rapidly in Pakistan with some Bollywood blockbusters even grossing the 100-crore rupees mark in Pakistan.

MS Dhoni The Untold Story box office collection day 1 earn a whopping Rs 21. 30 crore

M.S.Dhoni – The Untold Story released yesterday and closed September with a bang! The film saw 60 percent occupancy across the country which is really big. Sushant Singh Rajput ‘s convincing portrayal and Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s backing have made the crowd to throng the theatres in such a massive way that the film has registered the second highest opening of 2016. In its first day, the film has earned a gigantic 21. 30 cr!

Taran Adarsh exulted on Twitter while talking about the numbers saying, “#MSDhoniTheUntoldStory takes a THUNDEROUS start on Day 1… Emerges the 2nd HIGHEST OPENER of 2016… Fri ₹ 21.30 cr. India biz.” It indeed is thunderous. Our trade expert had predicted a 13 crore first day but the film went beyond that made 21. 30 cr which simply massive. It is only second to Salman Khan’s Sultan in the tally of highest openers of 2016. It even replaced Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan from the second spot which had earned Rs. 19. 20 cr. Taran also mentioned this feat in his next tweet, “#MSDhoniTheUntoldStory is the BIGGEST OPENER in the biopic genre… Sat and Sun biz should add to a FABULOUS total. India biz.” With Friday so big, the film will only get bigger in the next two days.

We already told you how the film’s Tamil version was faring yesterday. According to Sreedhar Pillai, a renowned film critic, the movie has hit a helicopter shot and a huge 6! Whoa, look at that! He actually went to the extent of saying that this kind opening, you tend to see for a big hero Tamil film! Looks the movie has hit it out of the park! Amazing stuff! The man himself MS Dhoni was actively part of all the promotions. So when it came to promoting the Tamil version, the cricketer visited the city he has a strong connection with – Chennai. To add to it, he roped in one of the biggest stars to promote the biopic. Yes, we are talking about Rajinikanth. In fact, the star cricketer and the Tamil hero met up, chilled and all that! It was so cool as they literally showed us how superstars chill!

Our reviewer Sreeju Sudhakaran had said, “He (Sushant) doesn’t look like Dhoni even with that long mane, but we forget all that when it comes to his performance and his body language. Be it the lighter scenes where he is pranking his friends, or the dramatic ones, Sushant gives a rousing act that will win your hearts. Check out the scene when he smugly lets his employer take an upper hand during a practice match before hitting him for sixes. Or for the matter, when he breaks down in the middle of the road, when he hears about his first girlfriend’s demise. The man doesn’t allow much room for you to complain when it comes to histrionics.” Clearly, Sushant’s Dhoni knock is pleasing one and all.
