An increase in cable bills have started to have an impact on the direct-to-home market with DTH operators witnessing an unprecedented 25 per cent fall in subscribers in the April-June quarter.

According to a report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, DTH services had an average active subscriber base of 54.26 million in the quarter ended June 30, a 25 percent drop from 72.44 million active subscriber base reported in January-March quarter. This coincides with the new tariff order implemented by the regulator from April 1.

TRAI chairman has proven himself to be the biggest a***ole of the year by his stupid decision and implementation. Everything was going so good before this new tariff was bought in.

DTH and Cable TV should be cheap because u have to watch content at restricted time slot and with advertisements. I'd day streaming/OTT services need to be costly comparatively as you can watch it anytime without ads. Makes perfect sense but not to TRAI ofcourse 😒

TRAI only responsible for this situation. Telecom operators are already struggling in the market and now DTH operators. If IPTV booms, then they will poke their nose in this segment also.

We needed control in pricing of food items. Yet, we got price control in cable and DTH. I love this country.
