MUMBAI: Hindi comedy entertainment channel SAB TV is looking forward to bringing the fifth edition of ‘Sab Ke Anokhe Awards’ in January 2017, unlike every year when the annual property was hosted in August.

The awards did not take place this year, as the channel was waiting for the launch of new shows to take place.

Speaking about the one-year gap, Sony SAB senior EVP and business head Anooj Kapoor said, “This year’s edition of ‘Sab Ke Anokhe Awards’ is taking place in January, because we were waiting for all the new show launches to take place so that the awards throw up a wide variety of characters and situations to the audience and showcase all the new launches.”

The theme of Sab Ke Anokhe Awards this time around will be ‘Fantasy Land’. The channel will take its viewers to a fantasy land by re-visiting famous fantasy stories enacted by SAB TV artists. Guests at the awards will be privy to dance comedy and award felicitations.

The channel is also looking to launch another mini-series ‘Khatmal-E-Ishque’ after the success of their crowd-sourced series ‘Khidki’. The show is scheduled for launch on 13 December. It will air every Monday to Friday, at 10 pm.

Produced by Aswini Dheer of Garima Productions, ‘Khatmal-E-Ishque’ is a compilation of short love stories, designed to extend to 15 to 20 episodes. All the stories will have a common theme of how love conquers all and how to deal with various complications in their love lives.

The first story of the series will feature Vishal Malhotra, Umang Jain, Sulbha Arya, Akhilendra Mishra and Sharat Saxena. It is the love story of a traffic cop in Mumbai, Kapildev Dinkar (Vishal Malhotra), and a physiotherapist from Goa, Lovina DeMello (Umang Jain), who fall in love with each other. The story will witness their struggle to convince their families to let them be together for the rest of their lives.

Talking about the new show, Kapoor stated, “’Khatmal-e-Ishque’ brings with it some very refreshing and light-hearted romantic stories in episodic mini-series format. All stories are slice of life depictions, yet unusual and with unpredictable endings. We have successfully worked with Ashwni Dhir in the past and are very happy to collaborate with him for ‘Khatmal-e-Ishque’.”

This year, SAB TV has introduced several new shows and has also extended its audience base with the launch of female-centric but male-inclusive series. Some of the female-centric shows launched recently by the channel were ‘Ichhapyaari Naagin’, ‘Dil Deke Dekho’ and ‘Trideviyaan’.

The channel has seen positive growth in ratings and one of the reasons is that it remained true to its positioning. While several GECs have dabbled in other genres like soap or reality shows, SAB TV stayed true to its vision of offering clean comedy.
