Discussion Satellite rights of Hindi movies

Not necessarily, Sony has also recently shared few movies with b4U. Mela might be with zee
Mela is with Zee dude. Regarding Sports Business it's like
Cricket + F1 + Tennis + Premier League = Star
Olympics + FIFA + UEFA + UFC + NBA + WWE+ MotoGP = Sony
Although Sony has more sporting events Star has cricket which they flex all the time

Sony backed out at the right price for ipl rights, star will make massive losses from ipl .they are good for eyeballs and star can afford to bear the loss is another thing.but sony will not regret not getting the ipl rights at that massive price,it was a definite loss making deal at that price.anyways star is handling the ipl better, with all the buildup shows and all.

Sony handled IPL with just a single channel for 4 years until Sony Six launched. That too a movie channel. And it did an amazing job by handling it. The other channels came later but Sony will still show IPL in Sony Max (all matches) not like Star Gold (which showed only on weekends) after getting the rights renewed, which may happen

Buddy! Your assumption is wrong buddy. Star quoted only 500 crores more than the cumulative bid. Star won that because of global bid. Sony bid ₹11050 crores for only TV rights in India. Compared to that ₹16423 crores for global rights is the right amount i guess. Star only won with 3.3% ie ₹500 crores than that of cumulative global bid which is ₹15819 crores. If not IPL would have gone to Sony and Facebook respectively in India. Check analysis by ET. They are essentially paying ₹1. 5 crores more per match.

Rs 54.5 crore per match is not insane, look at it in right context: Star India CEO Uday Shankar

Edit: Pic Represents different bids

Doesn't matter. They've made good money out of their existing sports properties.
Meanwhile, star is losing money because of 2 of the above 3 mentioned rights. They are finding it hard to recover the money off it
Anyway Star recover acquisition amount from many ways Hotstar big booster for star network and Star Responding for viewers request
But Sony neglected regional languages and they don't care viewers request
Many years back they Telecasted Karnataka Premiere league in English commentary and Kannada is not a language for them
They will not responding viewers request
