Home Shopping network Shop CJ Network, the equal joint venture (JV) between Korea’s CJ O Shopping and private equity firm Providence Equity Partners, has launched a Tamil home shopping channel named Shop CJ Tamil with specially designed and customised content in Tamil.

The channel was launched by Tamil superstar Trisha in Chennai.

The channel will be available through all cable TV networks and Sun Direct DTH, the company said.

Currently, there are two home shopping channels in Tamil, namely Naaptol Tamil and Big Deal TV, launched by Raj Kundra and Akshay Kumar.

TV18’s home shopping network HomeShop18 recently got the licence to launch a Tamil home shopping channel called HomeShop18 Tamil.


With the Tamil channel, Shop CJ has added second regional-language offering to its bouquet.

The network had entered the South market with the launch of a Telugu channel in 2015.

Shop CJ Tamil will offer tailored content and include exclusive offers on popular regional brands like Butterfly India and Preethi.

Shop CJ, the network’s flagship TV home shopping in Hindi, reaches over 85 million households in India and currently across India.

Several leading brands such as United Colours of Benetton, Thomas Cook, Samsung, Electrolux, Prestige, Reebok, Maharaja, Puma and Intex are associated with Shop CJ.

Shop CJ Network CEO Kenny Shin said, “We are pleased to expand further via the fourth home shopping channel in such a short span of time.

The Tamil channel will not only enhance our customer base but will also offer a great platform for regional brands to expand their penetration.

Our strategy is to build on the principle of bringing great choices with quality assurance, at the doorstep of our viewers.”

Shop CJ Network CFO N Ramakrishnan said, “The home shopping market is growing in India and Shop CJ is poised to cross Rs 1,200 crore GMV (Gross merchandise value) this year, recording a 40% growth over its GMV of Rs 850 crore last fiscal.

We are confident that the Tamil channel will be one of the major contributors to our revenue growth.”

Ramakrishnan had earlier told TelevisionPost.com that the company was planning to launch home shopping channels in all four Southern languages.

“We are planning to launch channels in all the four South markets.

We have launched the Telugu channel.

We also plan to launch in channels in Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam.


We are looking at launching these channels in a one-year horizon,” Ramakrishnan had said.
