Multi-system operator (MSO) SITI Cable is planning to expand its network in north, south and central India from its current base in east India, in a bid to increase its share of the digital cable TV market.

SITI's broadband services, based on DOCSIS 3 technology, are to be introduced in Delhi and NCR in the second quarter of 2015, with other value added services to be rolled out in phases, according to a local report.

SITI Cable, which is owned by the Essel Group, has also requested approval from shareholders for the increase of authorized share capital, to authorise the board of directors to create charges or mortgages in respect of borrowings and to issue equity shares or securities convertible into an equity share of up to US$100 million.

Speaking in May, Subhash Chandra, chairman, SITI Cable, stated: "The cable television industry in India is rapidly changing with the visible signs of progression towards the complete digitalisation. The television viewers are getting familiar with inherent advantages of digitisation through cable, digital cable is playing an instrumental role in digitisation. Digital cable television is a major engine of growth for SITI Cable across all geographies. Our sustained investment in this segment will further enhance customer television viewing experience."

The MSO currently provides cable TV services in 60 cities in India and the adjoining areas, and claims over ten million viewers.
