Bangladesh offspinner Sohag Gazi was
mighty relieved after getting his
remodelled bowling action cleared in an
official retest. Gazi, 23, was reported for a
suspect bowling action during the an ODI
against West Indies in August 2014 and
was later suspended with immediate
effect in October after his action was
found to breach the 15-degree flexion

"I am very happy, I can't even explain,"
Gazi said in an interview with
ESPNCricinfo. "It feels like a 500kg weight
has been lifted from my body. I can
console my parents as much as I want but
the fear within me was always there. I
requested the board to give me this retest
so it was challenging. If I had failed, I
would have been set back by a year," he

Gazi also acknowledged that a
modification to his footwork helped him
rectify his action. He said that a slightly
closed foot during landing allowed him to
get side-on while delivering, thereby
remedying his action. Gazi worked with
Bangladesh's spin bowling coach Ruwan
Kalpage and their computer analyst
Salahuddin to remodel his action.

"It was always about my footing. I am now
bowling sideways, I should have done that
earlier," Gazi said. "With this modified
action, I have taken 17 wickets in the
Dhaka Premier League and an eight-wicket
haul in the NCL match I played last week."

Gazi is the only cricketer to score a
century and take a hat-trick in the same
Test match. Despite his strong showing in
the domestic tournaments, Gazi was not
named in Bangladesh's preliminary 30-
man squad for the upcoming World Cup.
However, with his bowling action now
cleared, Gazi hopes to continue his good
performances in the domestic tournaments
and forge a way back into the national
