Satellite transmission technology is moving from mpeg4 to HEVC. (a 15 years back it was mpeg2 to mpeg4 or mp4) I am not sure about current FTA channels will be transmitted in HEVC. But sure that new channels will be in HEVC. All paid dth services (sun direct, Tata sky etc) changing their transmission and STB to HEVC. SunHD HEVC test channel is available in FTA mode in Sundirect satellite and can be captured along with DD Free dish if you have HEVC receiver. So to make future proof HEVC supporting receiver is preferred. These HEVC receivers are backward compatible, that means mpeg, mpeg2, mpeg4 will work inthese HEVC receivers. If you required cccam, powervu, b*ss key entry, then cccam capable receiver preferred. Another thing is HDMI ouput port is a must. Nowadays all TV sets require HDMI connection. If you are not interested in future just buy a mpeg4 receiver with HDMI ouput.
