Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) is seeking rapprochement with Sony Group as it makes a last-ditch effort to resurrect a USD 10 billion merger, according to industry sources. After the Japanese multinational firm pulled the plug on its USD 10 billion merger deal in January, the Indian company reached out again to Sony to reconsider the termination and offered for talks this month, a source said.

This time, it may work.
Apart from some billionaires like Adani(till now not shown any interests), Sony is the only hope for Zee to survive. Now the new CEO of SPNI declared that their doors are open widely for mergers and acquisitions.

This is expected after both sides reach settlement to maintain good relations in the future. Now both the broadcasters have no other major option for merger. Hopefully Sony will accept the offer and close the merger within the next 6 months.

Bro we should wait for official statement from company, and for their exchange fillings.

Any merger with a local network is unlikely to bring success to Sony unless it involves Sun or Zee. Other local networks lack a strong foothold, as the South regional markets are dominated by Star, Zee and Sun. These major networks have cultivated loyal audiences, making it extremely difficult for smaller networks to capture that viewership. Acquiring small local networks at this point would be a poor strategic move.

Star made its acquisitions at the right time and nurtured them over the years which is why they now dominate the regional markets. However its too late for Sony to follow a similar path. By the time their channels start topping the charts, linear tv might already be dead. In an era when linear tv is slowly dying, acquiring small local networks is a futile effort. Instead Sony should consider mending its relationship with Zee and negotiating better terms for a potential partnership.

#Red: Just yesterday, i was talking about this in another thread that Sony should consider mending its relationship with Zee and start negotiations for a potential merger. Now that Zee itself is approaching Sony, i hope Sony will reconsider their decision and engage in clear and improved negotiations unlike last time. This is the only way they can survive in the industry in the long run. Merging with other local partners wont give them the strength to compete against the media giant JioStar, so Zee remains their best option. At this point its truly the need of the hour for them.

Sony should negotiate for major stake (60%) to invest in quality content.
